Overview

Qatar gained automatic entry to the 2022 World Cup as hosts and have invested heavily in football infrastructure, hosting a globally acclaimed tournament. The Maroons won the 2019 Asian Cup in a surprise victory, demonstrating genuine improvement in their playing level. Qatar's squad is built through the Aspire Academy system, a state-of-the-art development program that has produced a generation of technically competent players. Most of the squad plays in the Qatar Stars League, with limited European experience. Qatar's style is possession-based and technically proficient, though they struggled at the 2022 World Cup, becoming the first host nation to lose all three group matches.
